The first annual Colossal Clusterfest—Comedy Central’s gigantic comedy festival which takes over San Francisco’s Civic Center Plaza and Bill Graham Civic Auditorium for a three day run in June—boasts a star-studded lineup of some of the day’s top joke-tellers.
But come June 2, Jerry Seinfeld, Kevin Hart, and Pete Davidson are going to have to take a backseat to two broads from Aurora, Illinois. To mark the 25th anniversary of Wayne’s World, Broad City’s Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer will headline a live read of what has become one of the most culturally significant films of our generation.
Naturally, Glazer and Jacobson will play the cable access TV hosts, with Glazer playing Wayne Campbell and Jacobson taking on the role of his nebbish sidekick, Garth Algar. The only original cast member joining them is Tia Carrere, who’ll reprise her role as Wayne’s exotic love interest Cassandra. From there, Glazer and Jacobson have filled out the cast with an eclectic mix of alt-comics who should feel right at home at Comedy’s very own Coachella.
In a stroke of casting genius, Tig Notaro will play Rob Lowe’s way-too-tanned baddie Benjamin Kane, while Ron Funches will do his best Lara Flynn Boyle impression when he takes on the role of Wayne’s psychotic ex, Stacy. Moshe Kasher, John Michael Higgins, Janet Varney, Chris Gethard, Eliot Glazer and Beth Stelling will round out the cast of what’s shaping up to be an excellent party time. Or is it party time, excellent.
We’ll find out, when Comedy Clusterfest takes over San Francisco from June 2 to June 4.
