Most of us were brought up to believe that the goal of exercise is simply to get stronger. Our childhood hero was Superman, the man of steel, not Gumby. So we work out, bulk up and forget about stretching--and then wonder why, for all the new brawn, we can't seem to hit a baseball any farther. Or why we have this nagging pain in our lower back.
