Don't look for high-velocity car chases and mass slaughter in The Usual Suspects (Gramercy Pictures), scintillating drama produced and directed by Bryan Singer from a deft scenario by Christopher McQuarrie. There's plenty of explosive action, but Suspects is more cunning than crash-happy. Its convoluted plot demands and deserves a viewer's attention.
