I read with interest Eric Klinenberg's take on the Newport mansion built by Cornelius Vanderbilt II ("The Breaks," January/February). Curiously enough, his grandfather, Cornelius Vanderbilt, who founded the family fortune, did not lead a particularly lavish lifestyle.
