Paul Krugman argues in the Playboy Interview (March) that not reining in the banks has contributed to a right-ward shift in U.S. politics. He's right. It allowed the right to rally against big government, which inspired the Tea Party and gave control of the House to the Republicans. This has led the president to lean right to cater to these interests. In many ways, we are in President Bush's third term.
