This is a belated response to John Gray's "Atheism Wars" (April). Humanity is more important to the survival of homo sapiens than reli­gion or notions of God, yet Gray refers to anything human in the pejorative. He seems to be of theeasygoing Mencken school of athe­ism—the court jester looking down on man's folly. It's all foolishness to him since he finds humankind's stupidity "irredeemable." Gray tries to reconcile his issues with atheism by throwing his monkey on everyone...
