Happy Pride from Playboy’s Cartoonists

Prepare to laugh, or be offended. (Ideally, both.)

Classics June 14, 2026

Throughout Playboy’s history, our cartoons have commented on and made light of nearly every cultural moment, from the Vietnam War to the sexual revolution. We’ve clowned on everyone and everything over the decades. So, this Pride Month, it’s in the spirit of inclusion that we present to you some gay vintage cartoons. From a wink at male camaraderie in the ’70s all the way to the gay marriage debate of the 2010s, let’s have a laugh.

“I’m okay with gay marriage because it increases the probability of gay divorce.” Harley Schwadron, 2011.
“Of course your wife doesn’t understand you.” Sidney Harris, 1971.
William Hoest, February 1973.
“We were wrong about Roger, dear…he’s not gay after all.” Don Orehek, September 1994.
