Controversial Florida gubernatorial candidate James Fishback is running on the heels of current Gov. Ron DeSantis, promising to put home-grown Floridians first—unless, that is, you’re an OnlyFans creator.
“As Florida governor in year one, I will push for the first of its kind OnlyFans Sin Tax,” Fishback, a Republican, said in a video reposted to his X account. “If you are a so-called OnlyFans creator in Florida, you are going to pay 50% to the state on whatever you so-called earn via that online degeneracy platform.”
Fishback, who has previously praised antisemitic white nationalist Nick Fuentes, specifically called out OnlyFans creator Sophie Rain in a post about his proposal. “Hey @SophieRaiin, Pay up *or* quit OnlyFans. As Florida Governor, I will not allow a generation of smart and capable young women to sell their bodies online,” he wrote. Rain, who claimed last year that she made $83 million on OnlyFans despite never posting explicit content, didn’t seem particularly phased.
Fishback said he would use the money from his “sin tax” to fund the state’s education system, anti-abortion crisis pregnancy centers, and “the first of its kind mental health czar for men,” who he claims have been made to feel guilty for their “toxic masculinity.”
“I don’t want young women who could otherwise be mothers, raising families, rearing children, I don’t want them selling their bodies to sick men online,” Fishback said. “I don’t want young, impressionable men who have strayed from Christ, who have strayed from our Lord and savior to be drawn into lust.”
A few things: Fishback is overlooking male OnlyFans creators all together, blaming women for the behaviors of men, and seemingly suggesting that women have just two paths to choose from—”selling their bodies” or motherhood. But setting aside the idea that that these veritable sirens are apparently luring mentally ill men into their immoral traps, it seems that Florida men are really sick, at least by Fishback’s standards.
Data from OnlyGuider, a third-party OnlyFans search engine, placed two Florida cities in the top three spenders nationwide on OnlyFans content in 2025. Residents of Orlando and Miami came second only to Atlanta in OF spending last year, according to this data.
Selling himself as DeSantis 2.0, Fishback failed to gain support from President Donald Trump, who instead endorsed Fishback’s opponent Rep. Byron Donalds. Reports indicate that Fishback has cited racist conspiracy theories as part of his campaign platform and repeated white nationalist rhetoric. According to NBC News, Florida’s Broward County School District “cut ties” with Fishback in 2022 following allegations that he had an inappropriate relationship with a minor. Fishback has denied these claims, calling them “completely false” to NBC News.
In a statement to Playboy, Fishback again called these allegations false, saying in part, “The court in Florida’s Second Judicial Circuit reviewed these accusations, conducted two lengthy hearings, and fully exonerated me.”
