Packed in A Parka and humming Midnight Sun, our bebristled cartoonist Shel Silverstein recently stomped through the snows of Alaska and found the last frontier to be a magnificent land of warm-hearted Eskimos and hard-drinking settlers. Snowshoeing and dogsledding his way, Shel mushed on to Anchorage, Fairbanks, Kotzebue, Nome and Point Barrow on the frosty Arctic Ocean. There's still gold in them thar hills, he discovered, but more panning is done by north country film critics than by adventure...
