The eight-year ordeal of Dr. Robert E. Hales has ended with a judge's order that he be released from the Indiana state mental hospital to which he was committed in 1971 as a criminal sexual psychopath. He lost his medical license in 1967 for professional misconduct: engaging in sexual acts with women patients.
