A Few Kind Words About Aspen

It's Easy to write snide about Aspen, and tempting. It's a strange little town, so full of pretty people doing pretty things that you can't help but feel a hopeless outsider when you arrive. About two weeks after I got there, I wrote in my notebook: "Aspen is crawling with tough guys and a lot of them are women. They carry wooden matches and light them with their fingernails, they have frown lines they didn't get skiing, they're meaty, they spit, they have big dogs and they beat them often....
