It is understood that PBS (public television) is lofty, nourishing and important. Unfortunately, no one watches it. Commercial television, on the contrary, is regarded as mindless, pointless and even harmful--but 150,000,000 people watch it every day. PBS complains of insufficient funds and low viewership, while commercial television is berated for its violence and lack of substance.
