This month's rendition of Batgirl is by the late Alberto Vargas, whose work spanned and chronicled six decades of American history. Born in 1896 in Arequipa, Peru, Vargas emigrated to New York in 1916 and three years later began to make a name for himself painting lush, lifelike water-color and airbrush portraits of girls in the Ziegfeld Follies.
