Spectacularly filmed across half of France, Milos Forman's Valmont (Orion) tells the same classical story as Stephen Frears' Dangerous Liaisons. In this case, with 1988's Liaisons still hopping off video-store shelves, odious comparisons are inevitable. Forman's younger, talented, less familiar cast seems almost to blunder into decadence.
