On the cover of Maxwell's Embrya (Columbia), the sensual singer-songwriter is submerged in water. It's an apt metaphor for the moody, soft sounds on his sophomore CD. While his debut, Urban Hang Suite, was a direct attempt at aural seduction, Embrya is more subtle. It's also pretentious. Never in the history of R&B has a love man used so much punctuation to woo.
