Jack Knight is a New York–based singer-songwriter whose debut, Gypsy Blues (Universal), successfully melds R. Kelly's ballad style with more traditional and progressive aspects of R&B. That sounds like a hodgepodge, but Knight brings it off with a soulful vocal style and well-arranged tracks. In particular, the bass and guitar throughout Gypsy Blues are funky and tasteful.
