In 1957 a fledgling Playboy published an article called The Pious Pornographers. We had noticed an odd double standard when it came to sex. Women's magazines wrote incessantly, if obliquely, about sex without causing public outcry. But let a men's magazine tackle the subject, and critics would claim we were obsessed with sex.
