I love Susan Jacoby's editorial regarding this country's lack of read­ers ("Zero-Narrative Nation." April). A friend of mine owns a small book­store named Prospero's Books in Kan­sas City. Missouri. The shop's logo is the word rk.ad on a .static-filled TV screen, and one of its mottoes is a quote from Joseph Brodsky: "There arc worse crimes than burning books. One of them is not reading them."
