In light of James Auld's letter in the September issue, here's a further thought on Perfect Game: How to Fix Baseball (May), in which Bill James argues the sport needs to be sped up: Why should we watch lengthy pitcher-batter duels when the batter loses 80 percent of the time? Instead, move the pitcher's mound back until you get a sufficiently entertaining on-base percentage. Then we can turn our attention to raising those sagging basketball rims.
