Bianca Censori Objectifies Herself — Literally

Bianca Censori debuts her first formal venture into the art world with BIO POP, transforming her body into medically-inspired furniture.

In celebrity discourse, Bianca Censori is rarely discussed as her own person. She is referred to most often not only as the wife of Kanye West, but as the wife of Kanye West who wears bizarre, nearly-nude exhibitionistic outfits out in public. Are they for his pleasure? Ours? What about her own? At best, she is identified as a muse. At worst, a victim. But in her latest venture, her first formal foray into the art world, Censori is turning this conversation on its head.

In BIO POP (THE ORIGIN, 2025), her first of seven installments planned for the next seven years, the architectural designer places herself in the sphere of the domestic physical object. The works utilize a facsimile of her own body as well as shearling and chrome medical devices to create an abject set of furniture: her arched back becomes a chair; her extended legs a dining table. “Domesticity is the mother of all revolutions, because all others trace back to it,” her artist statement reads.

While Censori is often referenced for her relationship and her outfits (which some may recognize as performance art, in itself), she has quietly been recognized for her talents in architecture and design — two arenas displayed in BIO POP. Prior to her marriage to Ye, Censori earned her Master’s degree in architecture from the University of Melbourne and was hired for his fashion label, Yeezy. With its bent and folded metal parts, BIO POP similarly harkens back to Censori’s early ventures in jewelry design, as well.

Accompanying the pieces was a live performance in Seoul, South Korea, in which Censori bakes a cake in maroon, full-body latex before delivering it to her body-double dining set. “The kitchen becomes an altar, the cake a symbolic relic, and the furniture the first shrine in a cycle that will expand into reliquaries, confessions, sacrifices, and rebirths,” her artist statement explains. Here, Censori is not an accessory: she is an object upon which we can place ourselves.
