In moving to Broadway from off-Broadway, Hair has lost its innocence, but it has gained a backbone. It is a very different show, and more exciting than the one we reviewed in the March issue. Author-lyricists Gerome Ragni and James Rado have scrapped their book (the weakest thing about the original), written hard-edged new lyrics to some new Galt Mac-Dermot songs (while keeping the best of the old ones) and turned the whole thing into a wild freak-out.
