Mart Crowley's The Boys in the Band signaled the first mass exposure of homosexual theater. Sadly, from current samplings of the gay genre, the trend is down. Although there are glimmers of the Boys' bitchy wit and personal desperation in such plays as And Puppy Dog Tails and Fortune and Men's Eyes, there are much greater gobs of sentimentality and melodrama.
