Miss August 2026
Lydia Bielen
Bielen, 26, is among the last generation of true Deadheads, people over the last 60-plus years who have religiously attended the group’s concerts. Although technically, Bielen was following Dead & Company, the band that the original lineup formed in 2015, with John Mayer filling the role of the group’s late cofounder and guitarist Jerry Garcia. “Now that Bob Weir has passed away,” she says,
referring to the band’s other legendary guitarist-slash-singerwriter, who died in January, “I’m just so grateful I got to be a part of that remainder of their legacy for so many years.”
When Miss August Lydia Bielen first moved to California, everyone back home in Georgia thought she’d packed up and joined some sort of hippie cult. And well, “it was kind of true, honestly,” she says. “We were just following the Grateful Dead.”
Now, she’s followed that free-wheeling groupie vibe right into the pages of Playboy. “I’m just used to being a part of this whole hippie community,” she says, “very much like a flower child.”
