In May, Cara Delevingne announced she’s a lesbian, confirming her sexuality for the first time publicly in a confessional during singer Rosalía’s Lux Tour. Now, just a few months after the monumental declaration, Delevingne is on the cover of Playboy—not necessarily the place you’d expect to find an openly queer woman.

Playboy‘s Summer 2026 cover star addressed her relationship with the historically heterosexual magazine head on.

“They asked me today on set, ‘Have you ever read a physical Playboy?’ I said, ‘I don’t think so.’ But the iconography of it, the Bunny, and the women—it’s fun to take something that used to mean something, take back ownership of it, and turn it into something else,” Delevingne tells author Ottessa Moshfegh for her cover interview.

That slight rebellion, she says, is what really drew her to wanting to pose for this cover—and to become the first out lesbian to appear on Playboy‘s print cover.

“I’m also someone that when people say, ‘Are you sure that’s a good thing?’—I don’t love the rules. I like doing things differently,” Delevingne says. “Of course, Playboy is very much a heterosexual institution. That’s why it felt like a bit of a ‘fuck you’ and a rebellious thing to do, and to have an incredible female-led creative team—a lot of them being queer—felt really fun and different.”

What was really different about this shoot, Delevingne says, is that it was all for her. The experience was different from posing nude for brands or other shoots.

“It always made me feel a bit gross [posing nude] for someone else—of course, it was my choice and I agreed to it, but it never felt empowering. I didn’t feel great after it. But today I had so much fun,” she says. “I’ve never felt more comfortable in my body and in my sexuality. I feel like I’m in more of my prime as a woman and as a sexual being. It felt—for me, not even for anyone else—really fun. That is like an absolute dream.”
