Why Arisce loves “Renaissance” by Beyonce
“I haven’t turned it off in two years,” Arisce told Playboy. “My favorite song on the album is ‘That Girl,’ because I am that girl. These muthafuckahs ain’t stopping me.”
“Renaissance” is Beyonce’s first solo release since her 2016 mega-hit “Lemonade.” The inspiration behind the album was “escape” considering that it was produced and recorded during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021.
“Creating this album allowed me a place to dream and to find escape during a scary time for the world,” Beyonce said in a leaked statement. “It allowed me to feel free and adventurous in a time when little else was moving. My intention was to create a safe place, a place without judgment. A place to be free of perfectionism and overthinking. A place to scream, release, feel freedom. It was a beautiful journey of exploration.”

The disco, dance, and R&B hits practically scream “the ’70s,” which is intentional. Even the album cover harkens back to the era. Beyonce on a horse is inspired by the time Bianca Jagger rode a horse into Studio 54.
Arisce, glass-ceiling shatterer that she is, is no stranger to attention or the pressure of modeling on the runway. Listening to “That Girl” before important moments in her life has become a bit of a ritual.
“As soon as it turns on, I am ready to get going,” Arisce said. “If I need to get amped up, that’s the song.”
