Available Photographs From the Eve Arnold Archive

Limited edition print: Marilyn Monroe at a press conference for “The Prince and the Showgirl”. New York City. 1956.

At a 1956 press conference promoting The Prince and the Showgirl, Marilyn leaned forward, and her strap broke. Here, Eve captures Marilyn before the iconic moment, her light radiating in a crowd of dark suits. The sale of this photo comes with a look behind the curtain – Marilyn told Eve, “Just watch me,” confirming that the moment was all planned. Collect here for £392.00, EveArnold.com.

Limited edition print: Marilyn Monroe on the Set of ‘The Misfits’. 1960.

The set of The Misfits was marked by constantly changing lines, with Marilyn confiding in Eve about the challenges she was facing and asking “where do I go from here?” This photograph is part of the Gift of Attention series celebrating Eve. Collect here for £392.00, EveArnold.com.

Limited edition print: Marilyn Monroe reading Ulysses by James Joyce. 1955.

Another installment in the Gift of Attention series, this photograph captures a moment of complete naturalness. Eve’s estate shared that Marilyn was “actually a voracious reader” and Eve just asked her to keep reading. While the modern “dumb blonde” stereotype may have been popularized from Marilyn’s performance in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, she was anything but, consistently turning the trope on its head. Previously unpublished, limited edition print: Marilyn Monroe on the Set of ‘The Misfits’. 1960.

In a rare moment, this photograph offers a never before seen portrait of Marilyn from The Misfits. All prints in this release are created with museum grade archival pigment and individually printed in Italy by Eve’s master printer, Danny Pope. Collect Here for £392.00, EveArnold.com.

Limited edition print: Marilyn Monroe, during the filming of ‘The Misfits’ 1960.

The Misfits plot centered around Monroe as a recently divorced woman, made possible by Nevada’s “quickie divorce” laws. In the 1960s, most states allowed only “fault” divorces, but Nevada required just a six-week residency – fueling a boom in divorce tourism, making it the natural setting filming of The Misfits. Limited edition print: Marilyn Monroe in the Nevada Desert, 1960.

Eve once said, “If a photographer cares about the people before the lens and is compassionate, much is given. It is the photographer, not the camera, that is the instrument.” With dusty boots and an unguarded smile, this final photo of Marilyn Monroe captures Eve’s ability to sit and wait for her subjects to offer her – and us – their full selves.
