New York Giants star WR Malik Nabers has dealt with plenty of frustrations thus far in his almost-two seasons with the team. Unfortunately, there’s not a whole lot Nabers can do about it on the field, as he is out for the year with a torn ACL.
However, the power is in all of our hands – quite literally – these days. A social media post like this comes with a lot of baggage, but I certainly don’t think Nabers is out of line here, in any way, shape, or form.
Nabers said in a post (which has since been deleted) on X after the Giants’ 34-27 overtime loss to the Detroit Lions:
“Sometimes I think they b makin us lose on purpose! Cause it’s no way, bro you throw the ball instead of runnin it to make em burn 2 timeouts?? Then you dnt kick the field goal.??? Then they have to go down and score!!! Football common sense!!!! Am I missing something?”
Whoa! I mean, who doesn’t love some drama pumped into the football season? But now you’re even adding in a conspiracy theory of the highest levels, not long after the NBA just had a generational scandal. For those who missed it the first time – whoa!
Nabers went full-on scorched Earth with this latest social media post, but he definitely has some validity to these latest claims:
What Was Malik Nabers Upset with the Giants?
Nabers’ tweet refers to the Giants blowing a late lead against the Lions on Sunday. In the fourth quarter, New York was ahead 27-24 and facing a fourth-down situation.
Instead of kicking the field goal to go ahead by six points, the Giants opted to go for it on a fourth-and-goal from the Lions’ six-yard line. Giants QB Jameis Winston threw an incomplete pass to TE Theo Johnson, which allowed the Lions to go down the field and kick the game-tying field goal with 0:28 left.
Detroit would go on to win the game in overtime, by the final score of 34-27, marking New York’s sixth-consecutive loss – and it’s seventh over the last eight games.
What Other Losses Did the Giants Suffer to Back Up Nabers’ Claims?
Oh boy, I’m glad you asked. The first of these egregious Giants’ losses came back in Week 2, when they held a 37-34 lead on the road against the Dallas Cowboys with 0:25 left. Bradnon Aubrey kicked a 64-yard field goal at the end of regulation to send the game to overtime and then hit a 46-yarder to win.
Perhaps the worst of the losses came in Week 7, when the Giants let a 19-0 fourth-quarter lead slip away against the Denver Broncos on the strength of an NFL-record 33 points allowed in the final frame.
There was also the Week 10 loss, as the Giants held a 10-point lead with under five minutes to go in a road game against the Chicago Bears. New York would go on to allow two touchdowns late, losing the game 24-20, and subsequently getting then-head coach Brian Daboll fired.
What Did Wan’Dale Robinson Say About the Giants?
Giants WR Wan’Dale Robinson had a career-high 156 receiving yards in Sunday’s loss, but he didn’t mince his words either, echoing the sentiment Nabers claimed:
“I feel like I’m in a movie sometimes. That’s exactly how I feel,” said Robinson. “Like, it’s not believable sometimes. A lot of movies are fake. So, it just feels like it can’t be real. But obviously, we’re living in reality.”
How Will the Giants Finish the 2025 NFL Season?
If it feels like the Giants’ season is falling apart, this could be the final stickiness level to the adhesive that was holding it together. New York still has five games remaining (at NE, vs WAS, vs MIN, at LV, vs DAL) in which there are a couple of winnable spots. However, to Nabers’ credit, is anyone there trying to close out the season on a winning note?
Obviously, these claims from Nabers are quite explosive, as they should be. Whoever the Giants hire as their new head coach will have plenty of work to do. The caveat, though, is that any head coach would be crazy not to entertain the idea of a Jaxson Dart-Malik Nabers-Cam Skattebo nucleus.
