Maxx Crosby’s future is going to be hotly debated this offseason. The Las Vegas Raiders seem to want to keep him as part of the rebuild. He’s never played for another team, but with his age and contract (as well as the status of the team), a trade would make so much sense. Right now, though, that’s not the primary option.
Raiders don’t plan to trade Maxx Crosby
Even though he’s been part of the organization for a matter of days, new head coach Klint Kubiak understands the value of Maxx Crosby. One of the first things he said as the coach was that he wants Crosby to stay.
“We want him to be a part of our success going forward. There’s no doubt about that,” Kubiak said during his introductory press conference via ESPN. “He’s one of the best players in the NFL, so that’s a no-brainer to get to work with Maxx and see him continue to have success with his organization.”
Owner Mark Davis has been around longer, so he’s seen what Crosby brings firsthand.
“Maxx has been a great, great Raider. He is a great Raider. He’s gone through a lifetime of development here for seven or eight years, and he still is a Raider. So, it’s all good,” Davis said after the introduction of Kubiak.
GM John Spytek would be the one who ultimately decides whether or not Crosby sticks around. He’s under contract, but he’d be a hot commodity on the trade market if he demanded one or if Spytek decided to move on. As of now, Spytek doesn’t sound ready to move on.
“I’ve had the opportunity in the last several weeks to spend a lot of time with Maxx, and I think it’s been well documented that he didn’t love the idea of not playing football, and I think you always want that from your best players,” he said last month. “I love Maxx; he embodies what a Raider is. I’ve been pretty upfront with that from the day that I sat up here almost a year ago, and I continue to believe that.”
If the Raiders were to trade Crosby, it would likely net them a couple of first-round picks and maybe more. It would be a great way to accelerate this rebuild and get Kubiak a lot more to work with. It would come at the cost of a premier edge rusher, though.
Crosby is staying out of the spotlight
Maxx Crosby hasn’t said anything about his future publicly. He’s opted to stay silent and let those things handle themselves. Crosby can become a free agent in 2028, but if not, his contract runs until 2030, which is when he’d be an unrestricted free agent.
“Now that I’m quiet, I’ve got random people making big statements for me,” Crosby said in a TV interview while appropriately wearing a Raiders sweatshirt and hat. “They’re like, ‘Maxx must’ve told them this.’ For me, I just sit back and laugh because I know my truth, and when I go to bed at night, I have a smile on my face because I don’t have to explain nothing to nobody.”
Crosby missed the final two games of the 2025 season. Many think it was tanking by the Raiders. Losing did assure them of the number one overall pick in the NFL draft. Either way, Crosby is saying he’s focused on healing this offseason.
“I’m getting healthy, in the building every single day. I’m in this building from 6 a.m. when it’s dark out, and I’m here until almost 2. (…) That’s all I care about, so all the noise, that’s news to me sometimes,” the edge rusher added.
