June 1970 Playmate Elaine Morton flashes a smile, complete with bright eyes and bed head, at Bill and Mel Figge, the husband-and-wife photography duo who shot her pictorial. The pleasure-seeker and nonconformist enjoyed surfing, horseback riding and spontaneous travel. Morton, decades ahead of the #vanlife trend, loved to see the sights from her milk truck turned tiny home, which she frequently drove around Baja and parked for extended periods. Staying safe at home when your home is mobile? Now there’s an idea….

December 1977 Playmate Ashley Cox knows how to stand out—so thought Karen Christy, PLAYBOY’s December 1971 Playmate, who discovered Cox at a fashion show in Dallas. Christy was so sure of her eye, she did a test shoot with Cox and sent it to the impressed PLAYBOY editors who gave Cox the green light. Scorpio Rising, her Playmate pictorial and the source of the above outtake, was photographed by Arny Freytag. If the shelter-in-place order has you getting all dressed up with nowhere to go, we reccomend a Zoom dinner date or a sexy Skype session.

December 1972 Playmate Mercy Rooney knows plant babies are a great way to lift your spirits when you’re stuck indoors. Rooney, photographed here by David Chan, always felt in her element when surrounded by nature—before moving to Los Angeles, she lived on a farm in New Jersey. A leather designer by trade (she often created outfits for rodeo stars), Rooney also worked at the Los Angeles Playboy Club, trading in her 10-gallon hat for a pair of perky Bunny ears.

August 1970 Playmate Sharon Clark traveled to the remote Truk islands of Micronesia for about half the shots in her pictorial, The Clark Exhibition. The other half were taken back in the States, where the Oklahoma-born beauty and sociology graduate reposed with a guitar by her side in this outtake by Bill Figge and Ed DeLong. Strumming’s not a bad way to pass your quarantine hours; if you’re itching to learn a new skill, whether playing the guitar or making a bikini out of a pineapple, look to our Playmates for tips on how to get started.

August 1973 Playmate Phyllis Coleman strikes a pensive pose for the Figges and DeLong. The former ballerina worked at a racetrack as a publicity person and pit-crew assistant for her car-racing beau. Cooped up inside during the pandemic? Make sure to get some fresh air every once in a while, whether you step onto your patio, go for a walk (mask on!) or make like Coleman and throw open a window.

When Christine Maddox moved from northern California to the Southland, it took her a while to adjust to the culture. In her pictorial, shot by Richard Fegley, the December 1973 Playmate says, “Back home, everybody knew everybody else. But here, I’d smile at people and they wouldn’t smile back.” Perhaps quarantine has us wistful and a little lonely, but we wonder if Maddox isn’t perusing the skies here but people-watching instead. (If you have a similar pastime, we hope you don’t spot anything like the Friends characters do when they peer out their window only to find “Ugly Naked Guy”!)

If you’re working from home, be sure to make time for rest and relaxation, just like September 1974 Playmate Kristine Hanson, photographed here by David Chan. Hanson’s work-life balance included dealing blackjack at a Lake Tahoe casino and studying communications while finding time to model in playful pictorials. We hope your pandemic patio features a hammock where you can swing your troubles away!

Chris Koren enjoys taking risks. PLAYBOY’s March 1970 Playmate moved to California all the way from her hometown of Cleveland, Ohio to pursue a career in art and fashion. She also doesn’t mind risking a card bet from time to time, as she demonstrates here, revealing her hand to photographers Bill and Mel Figge. If you know when to hold ’em and know when to fold ’em, a little virtual card action could bring some much-needed entertainment to your Koren-tine.

“I like to put my body into impossible positions, to stretch and flex my muscles,” says March 1977 Playmate Nicki Thomas. Posing here for Pompeo Posar, Thomas is fearless and in Top Shape, as the title of her pictorial notes. Even if you’re not a gymnastics fanatic like Thomas, quarantine offers a great opportunity to get moving, whether it’s downward dog or something more intimate.
