The Blazing Truth: Pushing Back on Four Cannabis Myths

It’s important to separate fact from fabrication in an industry plagued by stigma

Drugs & Leisure April 29, 2020

Given the longevity of cannabis, it has been historically difficult to trace its origins. Given its prohibition, it’s even harder to publish facts for mainstream consumption. And given its popularity in countless subcultures throughout the world, paired with its euphoric effects, it’s almost too easy to come up with stories about this powerful plant.

But these myths, no matter how innocent, have real-life consequences. The stereotype of the quintessential stoner, for instance, has contributed to the vilification and criminalization of users, growers and sellers. But the global movement to decriminalize and legalize cannabis offers an opportunity to rise above the myths and reveal the truth.

We at Playboy, with the help of several prominent figures in the cannabis world, would like to tell the real story, both for connoisseurs and for the newly curious, by exposing and countering some of the top mistruths associated with cannabis.
